Basil Sgourdos
Vasili Sgourdos is a qualified South African Chartered Accountant having worked for PriceWaterhouseCoopers from 1989 to 1994 where after he joined the MIH group initially as the Finance Manager of South African Operations. In 1997 he was appointed as Chief Financial Officer of MIH’s investment in Thailand, listed United Broadcasting Corporation Pcl. where he remained for 10 years. In 2007 he moved to MIH’s corporate headquarters in the Netherlands as General Manager of Pay TV business development globally before taking on his current role as Group Chief Financial Officer of MIH from January 2009. He joined Abril in 1982 as trainee in the Press. He was, as of 1990, successively, Programming Director of TVA, General Director of MTV, Vice-President of the Thematic Unit, Vice-President of the Entertainment Division and Vice-President of the Youngster Unit. In February 2003, he left the Group’s executive routine to take up the Vice-Presidency of the Abril Management Board and, at the same time, set up his own company. In 2006, he resumed his activities in Abril and became Executive Vice-President. In March 2007, he took up the Executive Presidency of Grupo Abril. He became a member of Grupo Abril’s Management Board in May 2006. He is General Director of Media24 and is also responsible for the global operations of MIH Print Media in Africa, China, Russia and India. He works in the boards of various companies of the Naspers Group, which he joined in 1998. He has occupied several positions in the areas of Finances/Administration, he was President of TVA, until he became a member of Grupo Abril’s Management Board in October 2002.
